On Thursday, October 25, 2012, ABB Technology (plaintiff) launched a suit against Hyundai Heavy Industries (defendant) for patent infringement in the U.S. District Court of Middle Florida (case no. 6:12-cv-01610).

ABB Technology is a Switzerland based company, involved in the development of power and automation technology. Hyundai is a Korean company engaged in the design, research, development and manufacture of high-voltage, gas-insulated switchgear products.

The patent US5625179 involved in this suit is currently assigned[*] to ABB Technology Ltd. (Source: MaxVal’s Assignment Database). The patent entitled Isolator for a Metal-Encapsulated, Gas-Insulated, High-Voltage Switching Installation was issued on April 29, 1997 and expires[†] on March 28, 2015.

According to the complaint, the defendant’s accused products Hyundai Type 145 SP-1 and Type 170 SR Switchgear infringe the patent US5625179.
