Plaintiff: Express Card Systems (Express Card)

Defendant: Apple
Express Card filed a complaint (6:13-cv-00136) against Apple for allegedly infringing their patents US5552994 and US5748484 (System for Printing Social Expression Cards in Response to Electronically Transmitted Orders). These two patents relate to a system for creating a database of greeting card designs that can be customized,  personalized and printed by a user. These patents are currently assigned to Onkor Ltd (source: Maxval’s Assignment Database[i]). According to the complaint, Express Card holds the exclusive license to the patents-in-suit.

The complaint states that the technology associated with Apple’s Cards app infringes the above patents. Cards app from Apple allows users to create and mail crafted cards personalized with your own text and photos.
The case was filed on 9th Feb in the Texas Eastern District Court and Judge Michael H. Schneider is assigned to the case.
