26th April 2012 marks the 13th World Intellectual Property Day since its creation in 2000 by WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization). The 26th April is an important date within the world of Intellectual Property, as it was on this date in 1970 the convention establishing WIPO entered into force. The creation of WIPO was a significant development towards "promoting the protection of intellectual property throughout the world" and in 1974 WIPO became a specialised agency of the United Nations to help facilitate this. IP has since become a dominant force for most businesses globally and in 2011 the International IP Strategists Association (INTPSA) was set up as a community to support those IP strategists at the heart of such businesses, whether in-house counsel or independent consultants. Like WIPO, INTIPSA seeks to promote IP internationally, as well as establishing the best practices in industry.

WIPO currently has 185 contracting states that on 26th April 2012 will once again celebrate World IP Day through various events across the globe. To mark the event, INTIPSA have developed a series of 'INTIPSA Tips' articles to provide guidance and information on some hot topics for IP strategists. ClearViewIP's Managing Director Jon Calvert is one of the co-founders of INTIPSA and has contributed an article on 'IP Strategies for High-Tech Start-Ups' to their IP Strategy section. The articles contributed to the INTIPSA Tips series are written by some of the world's leading intellectual property strategists, many of whom have been recognised for this by their appointment to the IAM 300, including ClearViewIP's Jon Calvert and Colin Hunsley. INTIPSA decided, therefore, that it would be a fitting way to mark World IP Day by extending their knowledge and experience to the IP strategist community, in turn helping to further promote IP internationally, as WIPO sought to do on this day 12 years ago.
