On Monday of this week, Forbes.com published an article by Peter Cohan entitled “5 Reasons to Scrap Our Patent System: #1. Apple’s Siri.” Here, Cohan writes a fantastic article relating issues with Apple’s Siri technology, and how its inventor’s patent history failed what could have been a more stellar technology.
Throughout the article, Cohan also writes about the specific issues he sees in our current patent system. These issues include how the patent system has lost a lot of its usefulness, how it can reward vague patents owned by companies with deep pockets, and how a lot of money (about $50 billion across all industries) is diverted from invention and into patent litigation.
While these opinions may be shared by other corporations, patent professionals, and individual inventors, there are systems available that can help address certain issues pointed out by Cohan to improve current patent processes. And that available system is PatentCore.com.
PatentCore offers in-depth statistics and analysis on all activities managed by individual patent examiners, and processing details on patent applications. With this information, patent professionals can better understand the nuances of examiner behavior, and how to more efficiently manage their patent applications based on those nuances.
Specifically, Cohan called out that one issue with the current patent system is that overworked examiners cannot do their jobs right, and that if 10 different examiners are given the same application, they’ll give 10 different results. While this may be true to an extreme, PatentCore allows for individuals to see how examiners tend to go through their applications, and how they award patents. With this knowledge, a patent attorney will know how to update their application in order to achieve a patent in a shorter amount of time. This will allow for less money to be spent on patent filings and more money to be spent on product development, enhancement, and further invention.
With tools like PatentCore, challenges with the current patent system can be passed over in order to attain better patents sooner.
Patent professionals – no matter what your opinions about the current patent system are, discover how you can improve how you manage the system with the help of PatentCore. Sign up for a 2-day free trial today and see for yourself.
