On Wednesday, October 10, 2012 Motio (plaintiff) recorded a suit against BSP Software  (defendant) for patent infringement in the U.S. District Court of Eastern Texas (case no. 4:12-cv-00647).

Motio solves Business Intelligence (BI) problems through the practical application of software and service practices. BSP is also in the business of developing and selling business intelligence software solutions, including software products for enhancing and extending IBM Cognos BI software.

The patent US8285678 involved in this suit is currently assigned* to Motio (source: MaxVal’s Assignment Database). The patent entitled Continuous Integration of Business Intelligence Software was issued on October 9, 2012 and expires[†] on January 03, 2026.

According to the complaint, defendant’s products Integrated Version Control (IVC) and Integrated Control Suite (ICS) infringe the ’678 patent. IVC system provides a workflow for versioning content and capturing the metadata around the activity taking place. ICS system provides IBM Cognos customers version control, content management, source control, recovery, performance monitoring, deployment and compliance reporting within their business analytics environment.
