In our second guest post, Matt Fornwalt explores the skills required, and the similarity in form and structure between patent analysts who write complex queries in command line interfaces to data scientists who write scripts, or code in order to do their work in programs like R. To some the use of command line interfaces may seem archaic but understanding this method of building queries can help analysts as they consider using data science related tools.
